The following table summarizes MSA’s required frequency for overhaul and flow testing:
A decision to retire apparatus should be based on a SCBA’s performance data and whether that data meets the specified level of performance as defined in the maintenance requirements from MSA.
*The unit of SCBA use is defined as the consumption of one 30-minute cylinder of air. If three cylinders of air are used, the SCBA would be considered to have been used three times.
HYDROSTATIC TESTING
Hydrostatic testing is required under 49 CFR 180.205 to ensure the integrity of pressurized cylinders. These include cylinders of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and Emergency Life Support Apparatus (ELSA).
HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR SCBA IS IN NEED OF HYDROSTATIC TESTING?
Table below is the information guide needed on when to have your SCBA be hydrotested starting from the Date of Manufacture, which indicated on the body of the cylinder. If it undergone a hydrotest before, see the date on the round metal disk wrapped around the neck of the cylinder. Contact us if you have inquiry.
REFILL
SCBA Tanks should be refilled every after use to ensure full length of service when needed. We conduct refilling of grade D breathing air to all types of SCBA cylinders.
